After a great deal of consideration and prayer, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 eurobrass Workshop. The COVID-19 situation is currently worsening—both nationwide and in Thuringia, where the workshop would have been held—and a weeklong event with 60 participants in July seems too risky. We want brass players and their families to be able to attend our workshop safely, and we simply can’t ensure that at this time.

This workshop is only the latest in a long line of events to fall victim to the pandemic, and we find ourselves once again disappointed to have to cancel an event that we had diligently planned and joyfully looked forward to. Like David, we find ourselves asking, “How long, O Lord?” How long will this virus rage on? how many more lockdowns will we have to endure? How many cancelled rehearsals, retreats, workshops? But even as David put his question before the Lord, he acknowledged:

But I trust in your unfailing love,
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the LORD’s praise,
for he has been good to me.
Psalm 13:6

We too will trust in God’s unfailing love as we move forward and continue to plan for the future. With this cancellation, we find ourselves looking forward even more to the next workshop, currently planned for 2024. In the meantime, we will sing the Lord’s praise, for he—even in this cancellation, even in our disappointment, even in this entire pandemic—has been good to us.
