The audience for our concert in Oberelsungen on July 26, 2024, included Ursula Neubauer from the Wolfhager Allgemeine newspaper. She reported:
At the end of a brilliant concert the musicians from eurobrass said farewell with the striking piece “In the Hall of the Mountain King” from the incidental music to Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg. They earned thunderous applause in response from those in attendance in the full protestant church in Oberelsungen.
Pastor Kai Scheiding, serving as the interim pastor, greeted the audience in the newly renovated church and promised a concert with brass music of the highest class. And he was right.
. . . Many of the pieces were arranged or composed by trombonist Ben Roundtree, such as “Fanfare and Flourishes,” the concert opener, or his four-movement composition “A Light Has Dawned,” based on words of the prophet Isaiah. Another high point was the duet from Cantata 78 by Johann Sebastian Bach, interpreted with great joy and precise expression by trumpeters Kathryn Cheney und Deborah Caldwell. David Porter played the tuba, certainly the largest and heaviest instrument of the ensemble. But that didn’t prevent him from playing a spiritual with amazing lightness, along with presenting a surprising little dance with another one of the musicians.
The brass ensemble captivated listeners with its absolute precision and transparency, with the twelve musicians performing both as a complete ensemble and also in quartets . . . The audience was pleased to have the opportunity to join their voices with eurobrass to sing “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty.” At the end of this impressive concert the musicians placed themselves among the audience for the last piece, and concert attenders were able to experience the ensemble members at close range.
